Let's ignore for now that American singer-songwriter Anastacia is one of the most unique and underrated vocalists of all time, or the fact that she has churned out brilliant pop gems such as "I'm Outta Love", "Left Outside Alone" and "I Can Feel You", or that she gave rock gods a run for their money when she covered timeless hits on her It's A Man's World album, or that she's conquered breast cancer twice, as well as other unfortunate health conditions. The artist is a strong woman, who seems to only get better with age.
To commemorate her 15 impressive years in the music industry, Anastacia is following 2014s Resurrection with her second greatest hits album, The Ultimate Collection, featuring previously released singles from five of her studio albums, as well as two brand new tracks, including the project's lead offering "Take The Chance". Instead of an uptempo, rock-influenced effort, the new song is a slightly more delicate and motivating ballad that showcases the artist's solid vocals.
"Take The Chance" is a bit more subdued than Anastacia's previous album lead single "Stupid Little Things" as it incorporates a soft piano as its main supporting production than hard guitar chords or aggressive drums. The scaled back effort chooses to look past radio-friendly, pop beats in exchange for a simpler palette where the artist's vocals can shine bright as they are meant to.
After the ups and downs experienced in both her personal and professional life, Anastacia sings to making every moment in life matter as she takes risks and faces challenges she never has not encountered before. "I'm gonna take this chance and do something I've never tried, I'm gonna make this moment matter til the end of the time," she sings on the song's uplifting and courageous chorus, one that has a personal touch and deeper meaning.
Throughout her career, Anastacia has reinvented her sound and image multiple times with successful end results, but with "Take This Chance" it appears she is staying true to herself, allowing her true talents speak for themselves. The new single may not be the hard-hitting, momentous track we were eagerly anticipating, but it is a motivational pop-leaning ballad that does not need loud bells and whistles to succeed.
Tracks featured on greatest hits albums are typically quickly cast aside as boring filler, however, looking at "Take This Chance" alongside the rest of Anastacia's bright catalog, it sounds and feel like a natural progression for the talented singer.
