10 Natural ingredients for skin care from your kitchen
Skincare: We all indulge in it because we all want beautiful, young-looking skin that glows.
However, what we also know (and especially what our partners know!) is that looking after our skin can cost a fair amount of money. The skincare products stocked in the supermarkets are expensive, and while they do help our skin to sparkle, they don’t always last that long!
If you’re on a bit of a budget at the moment but still put skincare at the top of your list of priorities, the good news is that looking after your body’s largest organ doesn’t always need to cost so much money.
In fact, the cheaper but still just as affective answer might lie in your kitchen.

10 Natural ingredients for skin care
Turmeric
Let’s start with turmeric, a spice that should be in your kitchen (because it adds such a kick to your meals. If it isn’t in your kitchen, we’re basically never coming over for dinner. Ever).
Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, which means that it works well as a skincare product. All you need to do is mix it with honey to create a face mask that soothes an agitated and reddened face.
The problem with turmeric is that it is a tad messy so you’ll need to be extra careful when making your mask and applying it!
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is so healthy. More importantly, it’s so versatile. It can be used to cook with, and it can also be used to treat your skin.
How? Coconut oil works as a surprisingly effective moisturising hair mask. This is thanks to its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial qualities that make it both effective and safe to use.
It also works amazingly well at removing eye makeup, and it melts literally any formula you might have used.
And while you might be thinking, “but isn’t rubbing coconut oil on my body a bit, well, weird?” the thing is that coconut oil can make your skin smoother than ever.
All you need to do is apply it a couple of hours before you hit the sack for the night. Alternatively, you could apply it on a “me day” when you have absolutely nothing else to do before it absorb the oil. Oh, the joy!
Greek Yogurt
If you care about your diet, there’s a good chance that you have some Greek yogurt in the fridge. If so, its time to use it to soothe irritated skin, because this is another one of wonderful natural ingredients for skin care.
How does this work? It’s because Greek yogurt contains lactic acid, a powerful skincare ingredient that you’ll find in lots of over-the-counter products.
It works as a gentle exfoliant that moisturises your skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and thus slowing down the ageing process.
Rolled Oats
If you enjoy a bowl of porridge in the morning, it’s time to start using some of those oats to protect your skin.
Oatmeal has for a long time been used to treat annoying skin conditions such as dry skin, psoriasis and eczema and for good reason. It works!
All you need to do is take your oats and grind them into a fine powder. Mix with yogurt or water and create a paste. Then, apply to any effected area.
Coffee Grounds
“Say what?”
Say COFFEE GROUNDS, LADIES!
Everyone has coffee in their kitchen, even if they don’t drink all that much of it. Coffee is tasty, but it also gives us a much-needed pick-me-up in the morning, helping us to kickstart our day.
If you’ve always wondered what else coffee can do for you, here’s the scoop: It can literally improve your skincare routine.
How so? Coffee grounds are great for peeling away dead skin, while caffeine has been proven to be good at stimulating fat degradation. This, in turn, can eradicate cellulite.
And if you’re worried that coffee grounds will make you smell like coffee, mix it with coconut oil for a sweeter-smelling scrub.
Matcha
This is another one of natural ingredients for skin care from your kitchen. Matcha is like green tea, but even more potent. It’s rich in caffeine and can add some vitality to your skin while eliminating puffing.
All you need to do is create a face mask with it and apply it.
Avocados
Admit it – you just bought some avocados today!
Hold the salads and sandwiches for a moment, though, because avocados could be used for your skincare routine this time around.
It’s all down to their creamy texture. While this texture is a delight for your tastebuds, it also nourishes, moisturises and soothes your skin.
You can also make a face mask out of it by mixing it with rolled oats and honey.
Cucumbers
You’ve probably heard of this skincare routine before. Cucumbers are popular at day spas, where guests don bathrobes and lie down with cucumbers over their eyes.
The reason for this is because the popular vegetable is rich in ascorbic acid. This acid is able to decrease water retention and can reduce puffiness and redness from your eyes after a 15 minute session.
So get chopping those cucumbers up!
Brown Sugar
Another one of natural ingredients for skin care is brown sugar.
“Oh, I don’t have any brown sugar in my kitchen because I’m so healthy.”
Said no one ever.
Brown sugar works well as a – wait for it – lip scrub.
That’s right! The reason is that it’s got the perfect consistency. To leave your lips feeling soft and hydrated, all you need to do is mix it with coconut oil and apply it. Et voila!
Then you’re free to use the remaining brown sugar however you like (we won’t judge you if you add a tsp to your coffee or tea).
Honey
Honey is one of those home remedies like apple cider vinegar that can basically cure anything.
It also tastes amazing.
Because raw honey is swimming in vitamins and live enzymes, it’s a really neat skincare ingredient. To rehydrate your skin, simply turn it into a mask.
You can also combine it with fresh lemon juice to treat dark spots that won’t go away.
